One-Time Passcode

Leave fraud concerns in your rear-view mirror with Petro-Canada’s One-Time Passcode (OTP). Now, every transaction will be protected by a single-use PIN, sent to the driver’s phone to allow them – and only them – to fuel up. Designed for one-SuperPass card to driver relationship.

One-Time Passcode (OTP) FAQ

What is One-Time Passcode (OTP)?

One-Time Passcode (OTP) is an added layer of security for SuperPass card transactions at Petro-Pass cardlock locations. Instead of using a permanent PIN, drivers receive a unique single-use passcode by text message each time they fuel up.

This helps protect fleets from fraud, unauthorized use, and card skimming.

How does OTP work?

When a driver uses their SuperPass card at a Petro-Pass cardlock:

  1. The driver inserts their SuperPass card.
  2. The system prompts for odometer and/or miscellaneous information if required.
  3. A one-time passcode is sent by text message to the driver’s registered mobile phone.
  4. The driver enters the passcode at the card reader.
  5. The driver selects the pump number and begins fueling.

The passcode expires after 15 minutes for added security.

What are the benefits of OTP?

Increased Security

OTP ensures only the authorized driver can complete a transaction, reducing the risk of fraud and unauthorized fuel purchases.

No PIN to Remember

Drivers no longer need to memorize a permanent PIN. A secure code is sent directly to their phone each time they fuel.

Added Peace of Mind

Fleet managers gain greater confidence knowing transactions are tied directly to the assigned driver.

Easy to Use

OTP is simple to activate and easy for drivers to adopt with minimal training required.

How long is the OTP valid?

Each One-Time Passcode remains valid for 15 minutes after it is sent to the driver.

What happens if a driver does not receive their OTP?

Drivers should first confirm they have cellular service and access to the registered mobile phone number.

If the code is not received, the fleet manager can retrieve the active OTP through SuperPass Online (SPOL) and provide it to the driver, provided it is still within the 15-minute validity period.

How do fleet managers enable OTP?

Fleet managers can enable OTP through SuperPass Online (SPOL) by:

  • Assigning “My Drivers” access to the appropriate user role
  • Adding driver mobile contact information
  • Validating driver information
  • Sending verification texts to drivers
  • Enabling OTP for approved drivers

Large fleets can use bulk upload functionality, while smaller organizations can add drivers manually.

Does OTP require drivers to download an app?

No. OTP codes are delivered directly by SMS text message, so no additional app download is required.
